Finding your way around AskMangar
The information in Ask Mangar is designed to be used in relation to different situations that visitors to the site want to address. For each section there is series of questions which then leads on to Hints and Tips and Products that could help. You can go back at any time by pressing the back buttonOther sources of help and advice
If you are disabled (or looking after a disabled or older person) and feel you are at risk the law says you are entitled to an assessment of your needs and help to meet them. You should contact your local social services department and request an assessment. The help and support available will vary from place to place and there can be delays. It usually covers things like practical assistance with daily tasks (e.g. getting washed and dressed) or providing independent living products. Contact details for your nearest social services department can be found in Yellow Pages.
Occupational Therapists
Occupational therapists are healthcare professionals who can give advice about managing daily life if you are finding it harder due to disability or age. They will assess your situation and help you to identify the best solution which could include using independent living products, or adapting or learning new skills. Most occupational therapists work in the NHS or Social Services. Some work independently and can offer their services to individuals on a fee-paying basis. You can find details of your nearest independent occupational therapist in Yellow Pages or on-line at www.COTSS-IP.org.uk.
